Description
The Space
On arrival you will find your kitchen well stocked with bread, butter, eggs, honey, jams and more for your breakfast needs. You can grind your morning coffe with complementary beans from our farm.
The kitchen is fully appointed for preparing your own meals, or we can provide catering in the main Sala at Las Nubes.
For stays of 3 nights or more we can program a complimentary wine and tapas in the large Sala of Las Nubes for the sunset hour.
Our caretaker lives on the property and will provide you with fresh produce each day.
Villa Cumulus is situated on the 5 acre coffee farm Las Nubes. You are free to explore the property on the well maintained and marked paths.
You might spend the day around the pool, swimming and reading, in and out of the sauna or relaxing in the soaking tub at the edge of your villa garden. Or you might schedule a massage at the pool or at your villa. Bath and pool towels and sarongs provided. At the highest point of the property there is a pavilion we call Nimbus– an ideal spot for morning stretching and exercise or quiet meditation.
Guest Access
Las Nubes is on a paved road off Rt 3 and only 15 minutes from the City of Atenas.
You enter the property with an electric key code at the second gate marked “Cumulus a Las Nubes”. You will drive straight to your door where you’ll find a locked box with the key to enter Villa Cumulus at ground level.
A remote control for the gate will be provided once you arrive.
It is a 40 minute drive to the international airport SJO in San Jose.
15 minutes to the Kingdom Hall in Atenas
Interaction with Guests
The owners may be present in other Villas and will give you lots of privacy. We are available 24/7 by text and always ready to help. There will not be other renters while you are in Cumulus.
Other Things to Note
With the change of seasons comes the change of flying critters. Cumulus is screened… but so as not to obstruct the views, windows in the Sala at Las Nubes are screenless. Guests should take this into account, especially at night. At dusk it is wise to shut the glass windows if it is a flying insect season and always turn all lights out when leaving a room or building.
Please do not kill the geckos. They are harmless.
In May we have flying June beetles. They aren't cockroaches :)
While Cumulus is very accessible to handicapped guests, traversing the complete property and climbing the short hill to the pool may be a challenge. Please consult the photos and message us if you have any questions. High speed wifi service is available in all the Villas.
Alexa is available on Echo Dots in all villas and at the pool.
There is no cable TV.
The Neighborhood
Though close to the neighborhoods of Barroeta, Jesús, and Alto de Monte we are a private gated property.
At 3400 feet altitude, we are one of the highest spots in the area and a good 10 degrees cooler than the Town of Atenas all year round
Getting Around
We can arrange for your transport from the airport (SJO is 40 minutes away) and for a rental car to be delivered to your Villa.
Having your own transportation gives you more freedom, but the steep, windy roads of Alajuela can be intimidating to some drivers.
If you prefer, day trips and tours can be arranged for you and we
have two taxi drivers on call for any town trips.
The entrance gates to Villa Cumulus and the larger property of Las Nubes are right on a paved road and the driveways are short and sweet…no torturous steep climb.
A 10 minute drive to Atenas gives you numerous options for dining out:(Tica/Polish/Indian/Thai/
Vietnamese/Pizza/Sushi/
Steak/Vegan/Seafood).
There are also bakeries, coffee shops, gourmet foods and wine, and a farmers market two days a week. Several restaurants provide carry out and we can suggest a driver to bring your dinner to Cumulus.
