Extra highlights about the immediate vicinity
You will be located within close walking distance to the beach. Surfer's Corner in Muizenberg is +-2 kilometers or +-1.2 miles away. You are on the doorstep of a bustling, vibey beachfront with several restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and surfing schools. However, you are able to take a step back from the activity and rest peacefully in this very nearby security estate.
A mere 50 meters from the security estate is a local convenience store, a launderette, a takeaway outlet called "The Naked Chef" with pizza, burgers and ribs on offer.
Close by within a few minutes drive are a few shopping centres, with stores like Pick n Pay, Checkers, Woolworths, Clicks, etc. Several popular take away outlets are also available.
Muizenberg has a wide variety of restaurants and pubs on offer, and a short drive away brings you to the vibey life of the Kalk Bay and St James coastline.
Muizenberg is considered one of the top destinations to learn to surf. You can join surfing lessons with one of the various surfing schools on the beachfront, which offer the convenience of equipment rental. For experienced surfers, there are dozens of sought after surf spots throughout Cape Town, with some renowned surfing competitions being held locally. Although Cape Town summers are unbeatable, which is from November to March, the best surfing months are actually April through to October is the best time to surf in Muizenberg. The winter storms create the ideal ocean swell and the north west wind facilitates the perfect off-shore surfing conditions.
Guest Access
You will have use of the whole apartment, except for a few locked cupboards reserved for use by the owners who use the apartment as a holiday home.
In addition to your one allocated parking bay, there are dozens of visitors parking bays, marked either as Visitor's Parking or Open Bay. You can choose to park in any of these bays, a short walking distance from the building. The visitors bays work on a first come, first get basis.
During the summer months, you are free to make use of several communal swimming pools in the security estate, however you require a wrist band for checks by security that you have permission to use the pools. Please note: Pool usage is only permitted 8am to 9pm, out of consideration for people living close to these swimming pools. The pools are closed from mid April to mid November due to the cold weather and a propensity for the local Egyptian geese to use the pools as a nesting area while they nurse their young, when the pools are left open. To prevent this, the estate management closes the pools mid April to mid November.
Interaction with Guests
Your main host is Shanna and is available on the phone at any time. Plus there are two co-hosts available to you to assist with any additional requirements you may have.
Firstly, your co-host Richard, being the husband of Shanna, is part of the team. Richard and Shanna are Bethel commuters and are members of the Muizenberg Congregation in Cape Town. They travel between Johannesburg and Cape Town to continue to pursue their Bethel commuter goals. Please note that we also offer accommodation in Cape Town as well, also listed here on Brobnb, if you are planning a trip down that way.
Secondly, your co-host Ella, lives close to the property as well and is available on the ground. Ella is available to assist us with on the ground errands if need be, anytime during your stay. Ella is also responsible for the cleaning and takes great pride in ensuring a sparkling clean stay for all our guests. Ella is not a Witness.
Other Things to Note
Electric heater
Three freestanding portable electric convection heaters have been made available for your convenience, especially necessary for the colder winter months. However, please note that the cost of the electricity to run the heaters is for your account and you will need to top up the prepaid electricity meter with the extra electricity you will need to run them.
Limitations on your general electricity consumption
The booking rate that you pay when making a reservation with us includes a maximum of 30 electricity units per day. This is more than enough electricity to cook and run appliances and devices, as well as keep the hot water geyser on permanently, with multiple people using the hot water every day. At the beginning of your booking, you will have your electricity quota already loaded into the prepaid electricity meter. If you run out of electricity during your stay, you will need to purchase a top up token and load that token amount into the pre-paid meter yourself. We can guide you as to how to go about doing that.
Air-conditioning
No air conditioning facilities are available. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan.
Smoking
...
Stairs
The apartment is located on the top floor and is the penthouse unit, so this means that there are two flights of stairs to climb to get to the front door. There is not a lift available.
House rules reminder
A reminder that we have a strict "No parties" policy and we require no disruptive noise after 8pm.
Cleaning available during stay
We do not include a cleaning service in our booking rates. If you would like to add cleaning during your stay, this is available at an additional charge. Please enquire with us if you would like us to arrange this for you.
Swimming pools
There are five communal swimming pools in the security estate. We are not in control of the condition of all these pools at any given time. The pools are managed by the homeowner's association. Sometimes, a pool may be closed for reasons out of our control, or a pool may be undergoing extra treatment due to excessive use by the residents. If a particular pool is not available for your use, please locate another pool to make use of. We are not held responsible for this in any way whatsoever, as it is completely out of our control.
Security in the Estate
The apartment is located in a 24-hour security estate. Entry into the estate is controlled by the security personnel at the entrance. Upon first entry, guests will be required to enter a unique access code at the security entrance, to be able to gain entry into the Estate. This unique code is only valid until 11:30pm, so check in is ideally before this time. If your check in time is going to be later than 11:30pm, please communicate this with us upfront so that we can make alternative plans for your check in. If you do not communicate this to us upfront, you will not be able to check in until the next day after 8:00am. The responsibility is on you to communicate this to us upfront. Thereafter, once you are checked in and have the apartment keys, you can come and go using a security tag provided to you with the apartment keys.
Security: Cameras
There are recording security cameras used by the Host for both security reasons, as well as to monitor if House Rules are being abided by. There is a camera in stairwell directly outside the front door. From this camera, the Host will be able to see how many people are entering / exiting the property. Another camera is located on the balcony. From this camera, the Host will be able to ensure that House Rules are being abided by i.e. no parties or unauthorized events. These cameras are not actively monitored by the Host, but will be checked from time to time or if there are noise complaints from other people living near the apartment. These cameras are really a management tool for the Host to reduce the risk of unwanted guests booking the space for unauthorized parties.
The Neighborhood
Without a doubt, Muizenberg and the immediate surrounds are amongst the coolest areas to hang out in Cape Town. The local saying goes, if you stay here, you've crossed over The Lentil Curtain. Gorgeous white sand beaches, excellent surfing waves, a variety of worthwhile scuba diving spots, various water sports possible like kite surfing, kayaking, supping, all easily possible anywhere along the immediate coastline.
The main Muizenberg beachfront has several surfing schools, equipment hire places, lifeguards, supertubes, pay-for-access public swimming pools, put-put golf courses, children play gyms, bathroom facilities, freshwater shower facilities, and the list goes on.
Coffee shops to choose from include the very warm and inviting Hans & Lloyd, Knead, Starbucks Coffee, Bootleggers Coffee, Empire Cafe and more. Restaurants include Hudsons Burger Joint, Tiger's Milk, and others. Chain restaurants like Spur and Ocean Basket are also available. Local inexpensive restaurant Lagerchinos sells the best burgers in town. Pubs included The Striped Horse. In the Muizenberg Town Proper, there are various other restaurants, pubs and take away places. The infamous Casa Labia Restaurant is a must visit just to experience dining inside a museum setting.
Slightly further afield are the restaurants along the St James and Kalk Bay coastline. These include Folk Cafe (another awesome burger option, and they have alternatives for gluten intolerant people and vegans), Dalebrooke Cafe, Brass Bell, Cape To Cuba, Ohana Cafe, Salt, and the age-old infamous Olympia Cafe and Bakery. There are dozens of others that are too many to mention here. Kalk Bay Harbour offers Kalky's Fish&Chips, Lucky Fish&Chips, and the exquisite Harbour House. All within walking distance, enjoying the funky vibe, many shops and stores along the way. Entertainment includes several local theatres to choose from.
And all this is within 5-10 minutes of the Capricorn Beach Estate.
What is available beyond the immediate vicinity would just make this far too long, so we'll stop here. Just know, you will not be disappointed choosing Muizenberg to be your spot whilst exploring Cape Town at large.
Getting Around
It is recommended that you hire your own vehicle. Public transport is not very reliable. It is possible to get around using the e-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt.

Hosted by Shanna
Joined in Oct 2021Introducing Richard (54 yrs) & Shanna Heijberg (44 yrs). We look forward to having the opportunity and privilege to be your hosts. We are currently serving in the Roodepoort Congregation in Johannesburg. We are originally from Cape Town, we relocated to Johannesburg to volunteer as commuters to Bethel. We now split our time between Johannesburg (where Bethel is) and Cape Town (where our family is). With our unique set up, we have the privilege of offering you homes in both cities, available for short term rental, and from time to time, long term rental. We are passionate about exploring this wonderful planet earth. Things we really enjoy are: Music, movies, animals, hiking, the mountains, the ocean, beach sand and swimming in the salty sea. Coffee and wine, good food, great friends, close family, fine dining, and of course, travelling. Shanna grew up in Cape Town, in the Constantia winelands. Richard grew up in Rotterdam, Holland and moved to South African in his teenage years. Life mottos: Do not go gentle into that good night. This too shall pass. Live and let live. As people, we are a combination of easy-going and accommodating, but we will stand for what is important. We are peaceable persons, but warrior fighters for our cause. But what has that got to do with our hosting you? We're not sure, but maybe some of that will resonate with you and you'll feel more at home with us when you allow us to host you. If you are our fellow friends in the truth, we would be absolutely delighted to host you and have the opportunity to forge a stronger connection in the process.
